Exhibition ‘Bucharest that never was’, at University of Architecture; can be visited until November 10

The architecture and urban memory exhibition ”Bucharest that never was”, which will be inaugurated on Tuesday, can be visited until November 10, in the main hall of the „Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism, told Agerpres.

The event is organized by the Union of Architects of Romania, in partnership with the „Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning.

”After months of research, documentation and dialogues with architects from several generations, the cultural project ‘Bucharest that Never Was’ opens a series of debates about the present and future of the city through an exhibition-event dedicated to architectural projects that could have changed the image and meaning of the Capital, but which were never built. „We invite you to look at the city together with the lucidity of distance and a renewed curiosity. Through animated renderings, drawings and archival documents, the exhibition reconstructs part of Bucharest’s imaginary history – a history of unfulfilled visions, of idea competitions and of proposals that remained only in the drawing, sketch or plan stage,” the organizers inform in a press release.

According to the cited source, „The Bucharest That Never Was” is not a classic retrospective, but an exercise in urban memory and a way of understanding the city through the eyes of those who dreamed it differently: architects, urban planners, historians and artists.

The event is part of a cultural initiative initiated by the Union of Architects of Romania, in partnership with the „Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning.

The cultural project „Bucharest that Never Was” is co-financed by the Bucharest City Hall through ARCUB, within the „Bucharest. Together” 2025 Program.
