USR leader: SAFE talks not yet concluded; worst possible time for political games

SAFE is a patriotism-related/patriotic programme, and Save Romania Union (USR) ministers will continue their mandate, to ensure Romania’s and every citizen’s security, said on Monday USR chair Dominic Fritz, ahead of consultations at Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

According to him, SAFE means not only greater security and long-awaited investment in equipping the Romanian Army, but also thousands of new jobs and real opportunities for Romanian industry.

„We still have 33 days in which Romania must conclude the SAFE programme contracts. The negotiating team has made strong progress and we are nearing the the finishing line – the programme is worth over 16 billion euros for the defence of Romania and Europe. SAFE is not only about enhanced security and long-awaited investment in the Romanian Army; it also brings thousands of jobs and real opportunities for Romanian industry. That is why, today at Cotroceni, I will once again call for responsibility. The negotiations are still ongoing, and we must not undermine our own team working for Romania through censure motions, parliamentary blockages or public attacks on the negotiators,” Fritz said in a messages on Facebook.

He warned that this is the worst possible moment for political manoeuvring.

„SAFE is a patriotic programme. USR ministers will continue their mandate to ensure Romania’s and every Romanian citizen’s security,” the USR leader added.

President Nicusor Dan is holding consultations on Monday at Cotroceni Palace with the leaders of pro-European parties on the SAFE and PNRR programmes.
