USR’s Fritz, interim PM Bolojan agree not to support any governing formula involving PSD
The Mayor of Timisoara and Save Romania Union leader, Dominic Fritz, stated on Saturday, following a meeting with interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, that they had discussed Monday’s consultations at Cotroceni Palace, convened by President Nicusor Dan, agreeing that both parties would not support any governing formula involving the PSD (Social Democratic Party), according to Agerpres.
‘I presented interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan with Timisoara’s major projects. We also discussed the political situation, where the decision to coordinate and align ourselves during this crisis was reiterated in our discussion. We also discussed Monday’s consultations at Cotroceni, where we will both make clear that any form of government in which the PSD is involved is not one we will be able to support. However, we are responsible, and depending on the discussions and the outcome of these consultations, both the USR (Save Romania Union) and the PNL (National Liberal Party) are parties that do not shy away from responsibility,’ explained Dominic Fritz.
The USR leader also noted that it is ‘vital’ for the key local administration projects financed through the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) for the renegotiation of this programme with the European Commission to be successfully concluded. He added that next week the two parties would finalise a package of laws to be jointly introduced in Parliament, aimed at fulfilling the PNRR milestones, thereby demonstrating that ‘this is a step through which both USR and PNL are taking responsibility’ for the reforms Romania needs.
Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan also stated, during the joint press conference with Fritz, that the PNL would stand ‘alongside’ the USR during Monday’s consultations at Cotroceni Palace with President Nicusor Dan. They would also convey that, based on the experience gained during these months in government, they would continue to support – in whatever governing arrangement may emerge in the coming period – projects related to the absorption of European funds, Romania’s financial stability, and economic recovery programmes.
Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan is on a visit to Timis County on Saturday, where he will also attend the graduation ceremony for the class of 2026 at West University of Timisoara, during which he is expected to deliver a speech.
